10 Zelda: TOTK Zonai Devices That Do More Harm Than Good

Players are welcome get creative, but they may want to think twice when using the most dangerous Zonai devices in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

One of the biggest gifts that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gave players was Zonai devices - but if Link isn't careful, the ancient contraptions can grant him the additional gift of a swift, unexpected death. Created by the archaic tribe of the same name, there are 28 different Zonai devices that the protagonist can collect and use in the latest Zelda game, whether that be by Fusing them to a weapon, incorporating them into Ultrahand builds, or simply using them on their own. However, players should be especially cautious when handling the most dangerous Zonai devices in Tears of the Kingdom, lest they have a death wish.

At first glance, Link doesn't seem to be at risk of harmful Zonai devices as much as some other inhabitants of Hyrule. After all, one of the first things that players did in the BOTW sequel is continue the trend of mistreating Koroks in Tears of the Kingdom, creating sadistic Ultrahand contraptions with the help of the ancient technologies. The unfortunate Koroks, alongside the protagonist's intended enemies (who unsurprisingly receive some serious beatings too) seem to be the only ones that players can harm in such a way. But as some poor souls may have already discovered through their own gameplay, that isn't exactly true.

The first mistake that Nintendo made was giving Link Wheels in Tears of the Kingdom. Predictably, the Zonai devices can be used in a nearly infinite amount of ways, and because they give players the power of momentum (and complete control, when paired with a Steering Stick), it can oftentimes lead them into some hairy situations. Big Wheels pose an even greater risk than Small Wheels, since their larger treads and improved traction allow them to haphazardly traverse rocky and uneven terrain - but relying on them fully can frequently backfire, as showcased by Arekkz Gaming on YouTube.

The Stabilizer has good intentions, but it's one of the most dangerous Zonai devices in Tears of the Kingdom when used improperly. Its purpose is to provide stability to structures by ensuring they always stand upright, and it comes in quite handy when trying to save an improperly balanced Ultrahand build. However, players who stand atop their creation when Fusing it to a Stabilizer may meet an unexpectedly fast and unfortunate fate, either being flung into the air or crushed underneath their own invention.

The Time Bomb is exactly what it sounds like: a bomb that explodes after a short amount of time. The volatile Zonai device can be invaluable in a fight, whether it's against a group of low-health targets or against the hardest bosses in Tears of the Kingdom.

That being said, players can pose just as much of a threat to themselves with the Time Bomb. Its blast radius is quite large, and the timing can be difficult to get accustomed to at first.

The Balloon, though unassuming, can also be one of the most dangerous Zonai devices in TOTK. Just like in real life, Balloons won't rise without the help of hot air, which players will need to provide by making a fire. The small, cramped nature of the Balloon combined with the open flame is a recipe for disaster, as one wrong move can set poor Link ablaze (especially if he doesn't have heat-resistant armor equipped).

Rockets are an essential piece of the puzzle when it comes to building the deadliest Ultrahand creations in Tears of the Kingdom, but if Link miscalculates their trajectory ever so slightly, then he too will get a taste of their lethality. It can be easy to underestimate (or overestimate) the power of the Zonai devices; unfortunately, it's a realization that most players will come to much too late, as they'll already be falling to their deaths or sandwiched against some stone before they can lift a finger.

The Wing Glider is innocent at first glance, but it's actually one of the most dangerous Zonai devices in Tears of the Kingdom. Taking a tumble on the simple, bird-shaped platform is surprisingly easy, as not is it extraordinarily sensitive, making balancing a nightmare - but it also has limited durability that can cause it to disappear midair. As such, the Wing Glider has resulted in some of the funniest deaths in Tears of the Kingdom, which speaks to just how often players have been struggling with the otherwise innocuous item during their own adventures.

Without a doubt, the Construct Head is one of the coolest Zonai devices in TOTK. Thanks to the power of automation, it's able to turn its head and aim directly at enemies, firing off any Fused weapons upon sight. For as long as the opposition remains alive (or until it runs out of Battery power), the Construct Head will continue to attack its target. But if Link accidentally ends up in the crossfire of the automatic weapon - which can happen frequently, especially if it's attached to a moving Homing Cart - it can end quite badly for him.

The Cannon doesn't inherently have a mind of its own, but that doesn't make it any less dangerous of a Zonai device in TOTK. In fact, regardless of whether the player pairs it with a Construct Head or not, it can cause some serious chaos for everyone involved. The Zonai-charged projectiles pack quite a punch, and if the protagonist falls victim to some improper Ultrahand practices (such as attaching it improperly or even backwards), it can lead to a hasty death.

Potentially being the highest-damage Zonai device in Tears of the Kingdom, it's not too difficult to think of all the ways that using the Beam Emitter can go wrong. It shoots out a long-range, astonishingly powerful laser beam across the map, effectively frying any enemy that dares cross before it. As Link may discover the hard way, the Beam Emitter doesn't discriminate who or what it's burning through, and any players that aren't careful can quickly find their hearts disappearing if they make one wrong move in the presence of the item.

Ultimately though, the most dangerous Zonai device in Tears of the Kingdom is the Flame Emitter. While the Beam Emitter seems to do more raw damage, the Flame Emitter trumps all due to its area-of-effect nature, setting everything in its immediate vicinity ablaze. Players who find themselves battling enemies in a field may accidentally set the surrounding grass on fire with the dangerous contraption, exposing themselves to sweltering heat and even possibly scalding themselves in the process. As such, the Flame Emitter is the most dangerous Zonai Device in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
