BMW presents a new dimension of driving with its latest X7 model
We take a closer look at the new BMW X7-A sporty and versatile model with an expressive design language
BMW Group Indonesia recently launched arguably one of the most successful BMW models in the luxury class, the new model of its BMW X7, at The Langham, Jakarta. The storied German brand unveiled this Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), which combines dynamic excellence, luxuriant spaciousness and versatility.
At first glance, one of the most distinctive features of the largest BMW X model is the newly structured front end that picks up on signature BMW design cues. In particular, the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille, these features pretty much emphasize the car's upright stance and reinforce its road presence in their newly interpreted form.
The split headlight units made their debut in the new BMW X7. The horizontal LED light elements set higher up in the front end house the position light, daytime driving lights and turn signal indicators. Meanwhile, the LED units below them for the low-beam and high-beam headlights give the impression of retreating into the background with their dark housing and deeply embedded position in the front apron that only comes to the fore when activated.
It's also great to see the new adaptive matrix LED headlights with non-dazzling high beams and adaptive light distribution now also provide the functionality of front fog lights with automatic bad-weather light. At the rear, the progressive style of the extremely slim light units—which now have three-dimensional sculpting—is accentuated. The elegant chrome bar connecting the rear light units is enclosed in an exquisite glass cover.
"The most essential feature of the engine is the integration of new-generation 48V mild hybrid technology"
Moving inside, one unique factor we can agree on is the generous spaciousness across three rows of seats that drivers or passengers can enjoy. Heated comfort seats come as standard for the driver and front passenger. Regarding upholstery, the standard specification includes seat surfaces in the new Sensafin trim. In short, this is a high-quality, vegan surface material with leather-like properties that has exclusive three-dimensional quilting and surface perforation.
The newly designed instrument panel—its slim air vents and an ambient light bar included as standard in its lower section—and the BMW Curved Display brings a modern style shaped by progressive digitalization to the cockpit.
On the technical side, the new BMW X7 has the latest-generation six-cylinder-in-line engine that makes its debut in the BMW X7 xDrive40i. In a nutshell, with a maximum output of 381hp and 520Nm, it boasts a wealth of innovations for the combustion process, gas exchange, valve control, injection and ignition system that enhance performance and efficiency.
However, the most essential feature of the engine is the integration of new-generation 48V mild hybrid technology. Essentially, this electrification consists of a crankshaft-mounted starter generator integrated into the transmission and contributes an extra 9 kW/12hp of output and an extra 200 Nm of torque. The engine encompasses an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, including shift paddles on the steering wheel and a Sprint function. The intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive powers the engine.
Furthermore, the chassis systems in the new BMW X7 enable it to span the broadest possible spectrum between sporty handling and driving comfort. At the same time, the significantly expanded selection of automated driving and parking systems enhances its safety.
The new BMW X7, with its unique character profile of the brand's largest Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), has been honed to significant effect thanks to extensive design refinements. Most notably, through a visually impactful front end, light-alloy wheels and the latest-generation iDrive control/operation system, including BMW Curved Display, additional driver assistance systems and the latest 48V mild hybrid technology, the new model presents a balanced blend of dynamic sharpness and comfort with a more extensive interior. With the combination of power, dynamic excellence, spaciousness and versatility, the new BMW X7 is a terrific choice for drivers of all mindsets.
