The country's second-largest carmaker, Hyundai India, is not-so-secretly working on the development of a facelift for its popular premium hatchback, the i20. Recently, a few spy shots of this upcoming i20 facelift were shared online, revealing that the new model will feature a design upgrade on the front and rear ends. The launch of this new facelift model will not be surprising at all because the company already launched the facelifted model for the European market last month, and most likely, the India-spec model will also carry forward the same aesthetic changes.

Despite this revelation, it is worth noting that the test mule spotted in the wild in India was wearing camouflage on the front and rear sections only. This signifies that apart from the minor changes to the front and rear bumpers and lights, most of the car will remain the same as the outgoing model. Additionally, the new facelifted model's test mule was seen with a set of newly designed diamond-cut alloy wheels on the sides.

For those who are unaware of how the facelift model will look, above is a picture of the facelifted Hyundai i20 that was recently unveiled in the European markets. From the picture, we can observe that the front fascia of the hatchback has been revamped, and it now features a slimmer front grille. However, it still manages to retain the same dark chrome accents that add to its sportiness. Furthermore, the headlights have also been changed, now sporting thicker LED DRLs integrated into the headlamps themselves. Moving further down, we can see that the front bumper has also been made sharper, giving it a more angular appearance.

Moving on to the sides, not much has changed in the European model, and the same will likely be the case for the Indian model as well. Taking a look at the rear of the facelifted model, it can be noticed that the general rear design will be the same as the outgoing model, but it will receive a new rear bumper and a silver skid plate. Apart from these changes, not much else is expected in the Indian model.

Shifting focus to the interior, one of the spy shots revealed that the forthcoming i20 could come equipped with a dual-sided dash cam, similar to the Hyundai Venue N-line. Apart from that, the cabin will most likely offer the same all-black theme. However, the most prominent change in this refreshed i20 will be a new full-TFT instrument console, which resembles that of the Alcazar.

Additionally, reports have suggested that the cabin will retain the current list of features, such as the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, and wireless charger. It is also expected that the new i20 might include a few new features, such as ventilated front seats.

In terms of powertrain options, since Hyundai recently stopped offering the i20 in diesel version, the hatchback is now only offered with a petrol powertrain. This means that the 1.2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged 83 PS petrol engine and the 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged 120 PS petrol engine from the present iteration will both remain in the redesigned i20.
